Meaningful Maths

Australian Curriculum (Maths) Alignment with NZ Maths

Delivering Australian Curriculum content informed by NZ Maths Pedagogy

Meaningful Maths is a teaching approach driven by NZ Math pedagogy and practice, just delivered with the Australian Curriculum in mind.

Guiding Principles

The focus of Meaningful Maths [M2] in NT Schools is improving student achievement in mathematics through developing the professional capability of teachers. The approach is informed by evidence-based strategies and understandings about mathematical learning and effective professional development. The network is centred around evidence-based approaches such as the work of Maggie Farrar. The MM network is an autonomous and accountable school led system committed to supporting schools to improve the implementation of quality teaching and learning in Mathematics. This is achieved through the sharing of data, resources, best practice and the commitment to continuously improve. The network has an elevated level of accountability and responsibility which leads to improving outcomes of all students and support for the system. All classroom Mathematics programs will be implementing the Australian Curriculum, informed by Meaningful Maths pedagogy and be inclusive of all learners.

Commitment to Action

To work collectively to deepen the understanding of practitioners, teacher educators, and policy makers to drive the numeracy improvement agenda across the MM Network, including building capacity through opportunities to lead/collaborate.
