Purpose:
You can help your child to order numbers from one to one hundred.
What you need:
- Newspaper, junk mail or old magazines
- Scissors
What to do:
Help your child to look for the numbers 1 – 100 in the newspaper and cut these out.
Once you have a pile of numbers (10 to 15 would be plenty) put them in order from smallest to largest. Ask your child questions about the order of numbers as you work:
- Which is the smallest number?
- Which of these numbers would come after that one?
Help your child to identify numbers that are missing from the sequence.
- What would be the next counting number after this one?
- Which number comes before this one in the counting sequence?
He Kupu Māori:
order, sequence | raupapa |
He Whakawhitinga Kōrero:
- Tapahia ngā tau e kite ana koe i te nūpepa i ngā mōheni rānei. Ko ngā tau mai i te kotahi ki te kotahi rau anake. (Cut out the numbers you see in the newspaper or magazine. Only numbers from 1 to 100.)
- Raupapahia ngā tau mai i te iti ki te rahi. (Put the numbers in order from the smallest to largest.)
- Ko tēhea te tau iti rawa atu? He aha koe i mōhio ai? (Which is the smallest number? How do you know?)
- Ko tēhea te tau ki muri i tēnā? (Which number would come after that one?)
- Mēnā e tatau ana tāua, he aha te tau ka whai muri i tēnā? (If we are counting, which number would come after that one?)
- Mēnā e tatau ana tāua, he aha te tau ki mua i tēnā? (If we are counting, which number would come before that one?)
