Students visualise and match different perspectives of 2D representations of 3D solids such as cylinders, cones and cuboids.

Teacher notes

  • Students are presented with pictures of a range of different coloured 3D solid objects such as cylinders, cones and cuboids taken from different perspectives and they match each view to a 2D picture.
  • Students identify the relative positions of the objects by comparing the outlines and colours of the objects and by rotating a base grid until they find the view they think matches the original picture.
  • Students then take a photo of their picture and check if it matches the original one.
  • Repetition is encouraged, with students working through a random selection of six tasks of increasing complexity each time.
